Santa Barbara County Grand Jury

Santa Barbara, CA 93121
Dear Mr. Monson:
On May 18, 1999, the Lompoc City Council approved the following response to the Grand Jury’s interim final report on Detention Facilities in Santa Barbara County. The City Council was asked to respond to Finding 1 and Recommendation 1.
The City agrees that our Police Department is in need of additional space. Chief William Brown has requested funds for an expansion of the Police station in the FY 1999-2001 budget. Chief Brown believes the proposed station expansion will address the Police Department’s space needs for the next three to five years. The jail space is considered adequate and should remain so for at least the next few years. The City Council will consider the station expansion request against other needed resources and available revenues.
The City of Lompoc appreciates the efforts of the Santa Barbara County Grand Jury during its 1998-99 evaluation of the Lompoc jail.
Sincerely,
Dick DeWees, Mayor
City of Lompoc
c: Lompoc City Council
Chief of Police Bill Brown
